Fruit Drinks

We all know we should eat fruit. The Food and Drug Administration tells us we should be eating about 1 and a half to 2 cups of fruit every day. How many of us actually do it? We all get busy working, running errands, and doing household chores. To get the benefits from fruit without interrupting your busy schedule, try fruit drinks.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals

Fruit drinks give your body the antioxidants it needs to fight disease as well as lower your risk of getting cancer. When you consume fruit drinks, you also provide your body with essential vitamins and minerals. Face it, taking vitamin supplements can be very unpleasant. On the other hand, fruit in drink form can be in a variety of tasty flavors.

Not only can fruit drinks improve your health, it can also help sharpen your focus, help your heart, and decrease the likelihood you’ll be tired or get headaches.

Selecting Fruits

There are a couple of things to look out for when your selecting your fruit drinks. First, you want to make sure your drink does not have a lot of sugar. Remember that ingredients are listed in order from most prominent to least prominent. So, if sugar is listed at all it should be the last ingredient. Second, take a look at the percentage of recommended daily allowances of vitamins and minerals to make sure you’re giving your body what it needs.

Make Your Own Fruit Drinks

If you’re worried about artificial preservatives, consider making your own delicious fruit drinks. Just get some nice ripe fruit, such as oranges and mix them in a blender with ice and a little bit of water. For example, you can use two oranges with about a fourth of a cup of bottled water and a couple handfuls of ice. For added flavor, consider mixing in vanilla extract or maple syrup. That’s a healthy fruit drink on the go!
