Drink Vegetables for Fun and Health

Dietary guidelines advise us to take in three to five servings of vegetables every day, to maintain our health and prevent disease. One of the tastiest and most convenient ways to meet that healthy goal is to drink vegetables in juice form.

Preserve Healthy Phytochemicals

Even when cooking veggies in healthy ways like steaming, vital nutrients and vitamins are lost. Vegetables contain phytochemicals, which benefit our health in more ways than scientists have been able to discover, and which can be lost when vegetables are heated. When you drink vegetables, you not only preserve the essential components of your veggies, you distill them into a convenient and portable health cocktail.

Get Creative

You can get creative while you drink vegetables to mix them in delicious ways. Try this recipe out for starters.
  • 1 cup of carrots
  • 1 cup of beets
  • 1/2 cup of celery
  • 1/2 cup of spinach
  • Sweeten with a healthy splash of orange or apple juice
You can mix and match your vegetable fruit juices again and again until you have a recipe-book full of favorite concoctions.

Go Raw

The best way to drink vegetables is raw for the freshest flavor. Carrots and beets are a standby, as are spinach and celery. Kale adds hearty green richness to your juice. Other great ways to drink vegetables include wheat grass, broccoli, cabbage, and watercress, to name just a few greens. To add some color, try radishes, red or yellow peppers, squash, or even parsnip or cucumber. Don’t be afraid to experiment! If you can eat it, it’s safe to drink, and might be tasty.

Feel free to sweeten your experience with fresh fruit, as well. Orange, apple, or pineapple juice will add some welcomed tartness and natural sugar. Bananas will thicken the texture and give a smooth mouth feel. Not to mention the added vitamins and minerals the fruit will contribute to your drink.

Make It Even Easier with a Juicer

One of the best ways to drink vegetables is to prepare it with a professional juicer.  The technology preserves the maximum health value, and produces the most juice from your veggies. For thicker, pulpier juices and smoothies, you can use a blender or food processor.
